Chairside Assistance & Procedure Support

Assist the dentist during all types of dental procedures by preparing, passing, and managing instruments and materials as directed.

Anticipate the dentist's needs during procedures — have suction, materials, and the next instrument ready before being asked
Assist with patient positioning, comfort adjustments, and communication during procedures
Mix dental materials (impression materials, cements, composites) accurately and in correct quantities

Chairside Readiness & Setup

Ensure complete chairside readiness before every scheduled procedure: instruments laid out, materials prepared, equipment tested, treatment area sanitized.

Review the daily appointment schedule and pre-set instrument trays specific to each procedure type
Verify that all required materials and supplies are available in the treatment room before the patient is seated
Perform post-procedure breakdown: remove used instruments, dispose of sharps and biohazard materials properly
Reset the treatment area for the next patient efficiently
Ensure patient chairs, lights, and equipment are functioning properly; report malfunctions to the SDA immediately

Sterilization, Disinfection & Infection Control

Perform proper sterilization of all reusable instruments and carry out surface disinfection following the clinic's infection control protocols.

Sterilize all reusable instruments using the autoclave, following infection control protocols and manufacturer guidelines
Carry out surface disinfection of treatment areas, dental chairs, countertops, and equipment between every patient
Follow strict infection control protocols: proper hand hygiene, PPE usage (gloves, masks, face shields, gowns), and waste segregation
Monitor and log autoclave cycles, biological indicators, and chemical indicators to verify sterilization effectiveness
Maintain the sterilization area in clean, organized condition; ensure instruments are properly packaged, labeled, and stored
Dispose of sharps, biohazard waste, and contaminated materials according to clinic and regulatory standards

Inventory Monitoring & Supply Management

Monitor clinical supply levels daily, including dental materials, disposables, PPE, and sterilization supplies.

Endorse shortages, low-stock items, and supply concerns to the Senior Dental Assistant promptly
Assist in receiving, inspecting, and organizing incoming supply deliveries
Maintain an organized supply storage area with proper labeling, rotation (first-in, first-out), and expiration date tracking
Report damaged, expired, or defective materials and equipment to the SDA immediately

Treatment Area Maintenance & Organization

Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned treatment rooms, the sterilization area, and shared clinical spaces throughout the entire workday.

Follow all clinical SOPs, safety standards, and instructions from the dentist and senior staff at all times without deviation.

Endorse any concerns, equipment issues, supply shortages, or patient safety observations to the SDA promptly and accurately
Participate in all required training sessions, clinical meetings, and continuing education activities
Maintain punctuality, professional grooming, proper uniform standards, and clinic dress code at all times
Report any incidents, near-misses, or safety hazards immediately following the clinic's incident reporting procedures
